Luke at 10 months
Luke, my silly, shy boy. You continually make me laugh. You seem to have just discovered how great your voice is. I’ll catch you saying, “ahhhhhAHahhhhhhhAHAHahhhhhhhhhh”. And you’re loud too. You just started saying “Dada”. You are great with vowel sounds, but only really have the “d” consonant sound. You started blowing raspberries many months ago and it’s still one of your favorite things to do. You also still love to kick your feet. I’ll say, “kick, kick, kick”, and you’ll kick like crazy. I wonder if those are sprinter legs. In addition to kicking, you are very skilled with your feet, they’re like third and fourth hands for you. When lying on your back playing with a toy, you’ll often hold the toy between your feet. It makes me curious if that talent will carry over into sports when you’re older. Feeding you pureed baby food and finger food has been mostly a pleasure. You can be quite messy, but you like almost anything I offer you. You don’t really care for avocado or peas or beans, but you’ll take numerous bites just to humor me until I take pity on you and give you something different. Your favorites lately have been pureed banana, peaches, sweet potatoes, and carrots, and small pieces of whole wheat bagels. You’ve gotten quite good at feeding yourself with your fingers, especially when you are motivated with yummy bagels. You are getting pretty fast with your army crawl. No amount of help to get you on your knees has worked so far. It figures that as soon as Grandma and I stopped trying to get you to do a regular crawl, you’re now getting yourself up onto your knees and rocking a little. You love to crawl up on my legs when I am sitting on the floor and bounce and shake your head up and down. Everyone that has seen it thinks it’s the funniest thing. You are able to pull yourself up onto your knees on things like the couch, the push toy and your crib. It’s only a matter of time before you’re up on your feet I think. You have pulled up to your feet twice I think. I took you for a physical therapy evaluation since we had to move away from Miss Marge. The therapist says you need to strengthen your obliques to help you with crawling and getting yourself into a sitting position. She wants to help you catch up with Micah. Your sleeping has been pretty good. Actually, falling asleep has been going well, staying asleep is not as great. Most of the time I can put you in your crib after we’ve done our nap or bedtime routine and you’ll roll onto your side and find your paci and go right to sleep. You have four pacis in your crib and often you will hold one or two and have another one in your mouth. When you wake up I can hear you clicking your pacifiers together. Last night I put you in the swing because you were coughing so much and I gave you a paci for your hand. I had to go right back into you when you started hitting your paci on the tray over and over again. I was worried you would wake Micah up. When you don’t fall right to sleep, I think it’s just that you need a little cuddle time because I don’t have to rock you to sleep, just a little cuddling, and you’re ready to go back in your crib. Your favorite way to be rocked is laying down in my arms with your face close to my shoulder and your hands up by your face (sometimes you cover your eyes with your hand) and you like to be rocked side to side instead of back and forth. That means I can’t sit down and rock you, I have to be standing, which is hard to do at night when I’m so tired. You still wake up to eat twice a night. I’m conflicted because I know you don’t NEED to eat in the middle of the night anymore, but when I think about you waking up hungry, I can’t deny you. It’s also the quickest and easiest way to get you back to sleep. My other secret is that I love that one on one time with you and I know that someday I’ll miss those middle of the night feedings. I gave you your first haircut 2 weeks ago. Your bangs were in your eyes, so as much as I didn’t want to do it, I knew I had to for your own comfort. I managed to cut just a tiny bit so you still look like a baby. You think your brother is pretty funny. You love to follow him around the living room. You are such a happy little guy. You are pretty quiet in public. You like to just observe everything that is going on, but at home you are outgoing and curious, and energetic. You weigh 18.9 pounds. I love being your mom and I couldn’t ask for a better pair of sons. I’m so thrilled to see your personality coming out and can’t wait to see what the future has for us.
